A Special Man

A Special Man

It was the year he stayed put
Escaped to the frontier
Claimed he hid in the capital
When we thought he’d been caught
Just before the first strike

He said he lived for his children
Loved his wife
Adored animals
But we saw him thrash his kids
Kill deer for sport
People for pleasure

His fury of negative feeling
Lit ardor and admiration
He was our leader
Forgotten for a decade
Beatified tomorrow
A new dead hero for our great victory

We’ll down one to his memory
I’ll drink to his fame
Gulp the foam
Smash the glass
