A Spacesuit for Christmas

A Spacesuit for Christmas

I liked our wide water view
Until waves cascaded over the car
Then the vacation home burnt in the wildfires
My wife says she’s moving
Somehow I can’t
Why leave a life at home
For a life of what?

I’d love to live somewhere safe
Really, really high up
Radiation’s the wrong kind of energy
But perhaps I’ll mutate faster
Quicker than these bugs and viruses
Though not as swift as wrath
Some life-changing acts
Only require an open mouth

They say no one can hear you scream in space
I doubt that
