Thinking wears you out till
Aging pulls its U-turn:
From school to kids to that terminal job
Soon no one’s left to whom you’d complain
Not even your wiped-out self
It’s more fun to imagine youth renewed
Vodka, white nights and blue funks
Believing there is a future just
When you saw there isn’t one
You fear the past will now catch up
But it runs right past and keeps on sprinting
Your best times ever smaller in the distance
The past never tires and
Imagines a better ending
Though not one written by you
