Last Minute

Last Minute

I’m falling from heaven to sea
How did nothing but sky and water
Get so big?

Yet I’m the only one plunging
The gulls stuck in glass
Lightning tethered to clouds
What’s keeping everything up?

These hawks such unhappy statues
Even the fish caught in their talons
Scared stuck in solid air

When time ends you may
Try roads not mapped
The past only lasts an instant
Centuries pour out faster than light

For in this last moment of my life
Above me screens a circular film:
Everything ever seen or known
Flying and falling
Your eyes chasing planets till
It’s no longer sky
You’re no longer you

Where did I go?
If you must ask
Ask, but
The answer answers itself:

When you fall into the sea
No one’s around to call you back
