My Shadow

My Shadow

I should not feel scared of my shadow
This no longer familiar familiar
It’s only some cheat of a spirit
Retaining neither body nor will
Just a thin mind lost to old ideas

Yet my shadow fears this strange time
Wedded to a present that hates its future
Only slightly less than its past
A time without time for most of us

These days my shadow and I
Move in the shade so quietly
We hardly know ourselves
