Uncoupled (after Ryokan)

Uncoupled

When I reach for the moon in the water
All I catch is the night

When people ask about enlightenment
I smile and point at their beds

How can I possibly sleep?
There’s too much to do next year

As the sun dips I look away
Hearing the stillness of past years

I chose a tranquil path
Not knowing tigers flee to the mountains

I have all that I need
That I never needed
